Why thin film?

PV modules have two main types: thin film and crystalline modules.

Thin film panel Crystalline

Currently GreenSolar has a-Si (amorphous silicon thin film) technology and is developing uc-Si (microcrystalline thin film) technology.

Thin film modules have a lot of benefits compared to the crystalline modules.

  • The cheaper price/W level has a major impact on the system installation price.
  • Thin film generates more electricity with the same nominal level especially in hot environment.
  • Only thin film is applicable for transparent building integrated applications (BIPV).

It is a proved fact that thin film modules could generate up to 20% more in hot environment

The reasons are the lower thermal coefficient and the self-curing effect.

Thin film vs microcrystalline

The chart shows that thin film modules (SP44) made by GreenSolar lines generate more power than the same nominal polysilicon crystalline modules at the same place in Bulgaria.

The thin film sector grows rapidly, it conquers more share from the PV market each year which proves its success!
